In short

How does dimple creation surgery work, and what does it cost in Bangalore?

Dimple creation (dimpleplasty) is a 30 to 45 minute daycare procedure done entirely from inside the mouth under local anaesthesia, so there is no scar on the face. Dr. Amrika Seshadri (MS, MCh) first maps the dimple point from your own facial landmarks and you approve it in a mirror. A very small amount of cheek muscle is removed at that point and a dissolvable stitch anchors the inner cheek to the skin. The dimple is visible at rest for the first few weeks; from about week 6 it becomes dynamic and shows only when you smile. Results are permanent. Most patients return to work the next day. At Dr. Amrika's Aesthetics, one dimple is ₹29,000 and both sides are ₹39,000, including evaluation, procedure and follow-up.

The Surgical Standard

How Dr. Amrika approaches dimple creation

Every surgery is conducted personally by Dr. Amrika (MS, MCh Plastic Surgery). Never delegated to assistants or medical generalists.

01

A Dimple That Moves, Not a Dent

The goal is not to make a hole in the cheek. It is to recreate how a natural dimple works, so it appears when you smile or talk and softens when your face is at rest.

02

Placement Mapped to Your Face

The dimple point is planned from your own landmarks: a vertical line down from the outer corner of the eye and a horizontal line from the corner of the mouth. You check the marked spot in a mirror, smiling and talking, before anything is done.

03

Done From Inside the Mouth

The entire procedure is performed intraorally, through the inner lining of the cheek. There are no cuts or stitches on the facial skin.

04

Honest About Who It Suits

Most faces look better with dimples. Very thin faces with high cheekbones and little soft tissue are the exception, and Dr. Amrika will tell you so at the consultation. This is surgery, not an impulse buy.

Clinical Methodology

The step-by-step procedure

A meticulous, multi-layer surgical protocol prioritizing structural aesthetics, minimal tissue trauma, and hidden incisions.

Phase 01

Pre-Procedure Tests

CBC, random blood sugar (India is the world's diabetes capital, after all) and viral markers. These can be done at any lab or by home collection; once the reports are in, a surgery slot is offered.

Phase 02

Local Anaesthesia

The inside of the cheek is numbed thoroughly. You stay awake and comfortable throughout, much like a dental procedure.

Phase 03

Intraoral Creation

A tiny incision is made inside the cheek, staying clear of the area opposite the upper molars where the main salivary duct opens. A minute amount of tissue at the marked point is isolated, and bipolar cautery removes a very small part of the muscle to create the natural gap that forms a dimple.

Phase 04

Suture Anchoring

An absorbable suture is passed through the inner cheek tissue and anchored to the undersurface of the skin. When it is tied, the skin is drawn inward and the dimple appears immediately.

Post-Operative Trajectory

Recovery timeline & aftercare

Knowing what to expect at every milestone gives you complete peace of mind. Dr. Amrika directly oversees all follow-ups.

Days 1 – 3

Initial Swelling

Mild swelling or slight bruising inside the mouth. Ice packs really help now and for up to 48 hours after the procedure. Soft, cool foods, prescribed medication and mouthwash.

Weeks 1 – 3

Static Phase

The dimple stays visible even at rest while the internal stitch is intact. This is completely normal and expected.

Weeks 4 – 6

Transition Phase

The dissolvable suture breaks down and the artificial tether gives way to internal healing tissue.

Week 6 Onward

Dynamic Dimple

The dimple softens at rest and becomes purely dynamic, appearing smoothly when you smile or speak.

Facial Anatomy

How natural dimples form

Cheek dimples come from a variation in the zygomaticus major, the muscle that runs from the cheekbone to the corner of the mouth and lifts it when you smile.

A Split Muscle

In people born with dimples, the zygomaticus major splits into two bands, one inserting above the corner of the mouth and one below it.

Skin Tethered to the Gap

The skin over this split sticks to the connective tissue beneath it. When the muscle contracts during a smile, it pulls that skin inward and the dimple appears.

Other Natural Dimples

Dimples also occur near the lower corners of the mouth (fovea inferioris) and on the chin (cleft chin), caused by a groove in the jawbone or a separation of the mentalis muscle.

What Surgery Recreates

Dimpleplasty recreates that tether at a planned point, so the scar tissue that forms over 4 to 6 weeks links the inner cheek to the skin and the dimple activates only when you smile.

Doctor Answers

Frequently asked questions

Straightforward, medically accurate answers directly from Dr. Amrika Seshadri.

How much does dimple creation cost in Bangalore?+

At Dr. Amrika's Aesthetics on Sarjapura Main Road, dimple creation on one side is ₹29,000 and on both sides is ₹39,000. This includes the pre-procedure evaluation, custom mapping, local anaesthesia, the intraoral procedure, dissolvable sutures and follow-up care.

Is dimple creation surgery painful?+

The procedure itself is relatively painless because it is done under local anaesthesia, similar to a dental procedure. Once the anaesthesia wears off you may feel mild tenderness or soreness inside the cheek for 2 to 3 days, which is easily managed with the oral painkillers provided for 5 days.

Will there be any visible scars on my face?+

No. The procedure is performed from inside the mouth, so there are no cuts or stitches on the facial skin. Some patients have small white spots where the skin is anchored; these tend to fade over about 6 months.

How long does the procedure take?+

It is a daycare procedure that typically takes 30 to 45 minutes. At Dr. Amrika's Aesthetics, surgery can start around 11 am and you could potentially leave at 4 pm with pretty (and slightly sore) dimples.

Why is the dimple visible even when I am not smiling right after surgery?+

Immediately after surgery the absorbable suture holds the skin tightly against the inner cheek tissue, creating a static dimple. Over 4 to 6 weeks, as the stitch dissolves and the tissue heals, the dimple softens at rest and shows only when you smile.

How long do the results last?+

Dimpleplasty is permanent. The internal scar tissue that forms between the skin and the muscle anchors the tissue, so the dimple continues to appear when you smile for years to come.

What should I eat after the procedure?+

For the first 3 to 5 days, stick to soft, non-spicy food to avoid irritating the stitch inside the mouth. Avoid very hot, sharp or crunchy foods, and rinse with an antiseptic mouthwash before every meal, snack, coffee or chai, and again after it.

What are the risks of dimple creation?+

Dimpleplasty is a low-risk procedure, but like every surgical procedure it has inherent risks: temporary swelling, mild bruising, localised infection or uneven depth. Following the post-operative hygiene instructions minimises these risks significantly. Ultimately your own body must support healing, so avoiding alcohol and smoking is very important.

Can I choose where my dimples will be placed?+

Yes. Dr. Amrika suggests the most natural location using anatomical guidelines (the intersection of lines from the outer corner of the eye and the corner of the mouth), and you review and approve the placement in a mirror during the consultation itself.

Can dimple creation be reversed?+

Dimpleplasty is intended to be permanent, but in the early stages a dimple can sometimes be reduced or reversed by releasing the internal suture or scar tissue through a minor procedure inside the mouth. In practice, people rarely ask for a reversal.

How soon can I return to work?+

Most patients return to work and light daily routines the very next day. Avoid strenuous exercise and contact sports for 1 to 2 weeks to let the internal tissues settle.

Will dimples suit me?+

An in-person consultation, not a virtual one, is the most important step. Most faces improve with dimples; the exceptions are very thin faces with high cheekbones and little soft tissue. A mentally prepared patient enjoys the dimple; a poorly prepared one can regret it.
